BP3600 - Overview

What Is That? This is the typical response when customers see the BP3600 for the first time!

The AT BP3600 Immersive Audio Microphone allows you to capture stable, three-dimensional sound beds at live broadcasts, concerts, festivals, film/movie sets, virtual entertainment, game audio design, sporting events and more. This practical, state-of-the-art broadcast solution allows you to establish a truly immersive audio image that can be integrated easily as an audio channel bed into immersive audio codecs like MPEG-H 3D Audio without further processing.

The BP3600 consists of eight 3.5" (8.8 cm) long microphone assemblies that extend to form a cube, the capsules equidistant from the center and separated from one another by 15 cm. This eight-channel near-coincident array provides ample spaciousness and controlled separation not found in other all-in-one immersive audio microphones. The hypercardioid capsules are equidistant from the center and create an eight-channel near-coincident array providing full and controlled separation.

Each microphone assembly is equipped with a 12 mm hypercardioid capsule for consistent, focused pickup, producing ideally separated, discrete signals to each channel. The diminutive capsules also keep the entire unit small and lightweight, enabling quick setup and inconspicuous use for video broadcasts. The main unit's TA3F microphone connectors are outfitted with color-coded and numbered channel indicator rings for easy reference and come with water protection caps to guard against rain and other precipitation.

At the end of the BP3600's easy-carry grip is a 16-pin LEMO output connector to which the included 16.4' (5 m) LEMO-to-XLRM (x 8) breakout cable can be attached to route the eight channels to a mixing console or audio interface. LEMO-to-LEMO extension cables are available separately for use between the microphone and the breakout cable to increase the length of the cable run. A safety ring provides additional security when suspending the microphone above spectators in grandstands, stadiums or auditoriums.

The BP3600 comes with eight AT8172 windscreens and a microphone isolation stand clamp with 5/8"-27 to 3/8"-16 threaded adapter. Additional accessories, including Rycote BBG Windshields for increased noise protection and Rycote BBG Windjammer synthetic fur covers to attenuate extreme wind noise, are available separately. The microphone disassembles quickly and packs away in the included carrying case for convenient storage, transport and protection.
