DOUBLE-RIBBON HYPERCARDIOID MICROPHONE
Delicate workmanship teams up with precision components: The Beyerdynamic M 160 is an award-winning ribbon microphone, unique in the way it is manufactured. For decades, this microphone has refined hit after hit with its fantastic sound. Good bass response, warm mid-ranges and silky highs meld together in a special vintage sound. Due to this very exact sound, the M 160 is fondly called a gem. Anyone who knows this microphone is certain of one thing: The M 160 is without equal.
SOOTHES ROUGH SOUND
With the M 160, rough sound sources are reproduced in a gentle and elegant way. For this reason, it can also be paired up with strongly distorting guitar amplifiers for excellent results.
A FAVORITE OF ELECTRIC GUITARS AND DRUM KITS
Having made its name on popular recordings with guitar amplifiers and drums from the likes of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie, the M 160 has proven itself to be a standout performer. On the drums, it shows off its skills by capturing the entire set, thanks to its ability to reach even the deep drums quite well.
HYPERCARDIOID RIBBON
The defining feature of the M 160 is its directional patterns. While most ribbon microphones rely on a figure 8 polar pattern, the M 160 distinguishes itself with its hypercardioid. It is less sensitive to ambient noise as a result because it lowers noise suppression at 110° by 25 dB and captures less noise from behind. It puts on quite a show on stage as well.
TECHNOLOGY HALL OF FAME
The M 160 was inducted into the NAMM TEC Awards Technology Hall of Fame in 2019 for its contribution to the advancement of audio technology.
MADE IN GERMANY
This double-ribbon microphone exemplifies world-class craftsmanship. From the very beginning, the way the M 160 is manufactured has been very demanding - from the precise strength of the pure aluminium ribbon and its exact placement on the magnet shoe to the testing of vibration behaviour. All this hard work is ultimately reflected in the exceptional sound that is produced. Every microphone is unique thanks to the exacting form of precision "Made in Germany".
