The Ultra-Versatile Encoder/Decoder/Recorder/Converter - All In One!
The Vela Rack SDI from Science Image is a versatile, multipurpose video production tool that works equally well as a video encoder, decoder, recorder, and format converter. The Vela Rack SDI is small in size, taking up only about a third of a rack unit in space, while still including a full-color LED touch screen, tally light, SSD recording bay, and a full complement of SDI, HDMI, audio, and network connections.

The Science Image Vela Rack SDI has many uses in live production. These are a just a few possible workflows:

- Encode SDI video signals up to 4Kp60 to High-Bandwidth NDI, NDI|HX2, or NDI|HX3.
- Decode NDI video to SDI outputs, while simultaneously monitoring the signal on the built-in display and outputting via HDMI to an external monitor.
- With two Vela units, capture SDI video on the first unit, transmit the via fiber to the second unit, which then encodes that SDI signal to RTMP for a live stream.
- Record NDI video to the internal SSD drive while decoding it to an SDI output.

Although the Vela Rack SDI can be used as a standalone unit, with the optional Vela Shelf up to three of these devices can be installed in a single 1RU of rack space.
